UniFi AP Keeps Disconnecting: What to Check

Frequent AP Disconnects Are Often a Wired Problem

An access point that repeatedly goes offline may have a wireless symptom but a wired cause. Before changing radio settings, check power, Ethernet, switch logs and uplink stability.

Work Through the Physical Layer First

  • Check the switch port for link flaps or repeated renegotiation.
  • Confirm the PoE source has adequate budget and is not cycling power.
  • Inspect patch cords, keystones and terminations.
  • Temporarily test with a known-good short cable when practical.
  • Check for water, corrosion or outdoor-cable damage on exterior installations.

Then Review the Controller

Look at AP uptime, restart history, switch-port events and whether several devices disconnect at the same time. If multiple devices fail together, investigate the shared switch, uplink or power source instead of treating each AP independently.

Do Not Use Mesh as a Band-Aid

If an AP has Ethernet available, a stable wired uplink is generally preferable to using wireless meshing to hide a cabling problem.
