Hotel Network Assessment Checklist

Do Not Start by Replacing Equipment

A useful hotel network assessment separates internet service, routing, switching, cabling, wireless coverage and application-specific problems before recommending upgrades.

Assessment Checklist

  1. Test internet performance at the gateway.
  2. Verify core switch and uplink speeds.
  3. Check switch errors, port negotiation and PoE status.
  4. Map access points and client distribution.
  5. Test representative guest rooms and common areas.
  6. Review building-to-building links.
  7. Identify flat networks and segmentation gaps.
  8. Check camera/NVR and access-control connectivity.
  9. Review rack condition, labeling and documentation.
  10. Record firmware/software state before changes.

The Goal Is to Find the Bottleneck

If wired performance is strong but one building has weak wireless performance, replacing the internet circuit may not fix anything. Likewise, strong signal does not prove that switching, uplinks or client capacity are adequate.
