A Hotel Should Not Be One Flat Network
Different hotel systems have different trust levels and traffic patterns. Guest devices, staff computers, cameras, access-control hardware, IoT equipment and management interfaces should not automatically share unrestricted access to each other.
Common Logical Network Groups
- Guest internet
- Staff / front desk
- Management infrastructure
- Cameras / video
- Access control / locks
- IoT / building devices
- Vendor or franchise-managed systems where required
Segmentation Must Match Operations
Do not create VLANs simply because more VLANs sound secure. Each segment needs a clear purpose, DHCP/routing plan and firewall policy. Document what systems must communicate across segments before blocking traffic.
